Motherhood

I watched as her calf came up to her while she munched on a mouthful of grass. He gingerly reached up and took a piece from her mouth. She didn’t complain or try to stop him.

He imitated her rythmic chewing. He can’t digest grass just yet. But he wants to imitate Mom. She’s indulgent and patient.

In a few weeks he will be able to digest grass and will start to graze on his own. He will still need to nurse from her for the next 6 months, less and less though as the weeks go by. Right now, he needs her more than he ever will.

And she’s ok with that.
