Duck Pond at Bradley Fair, Wichita

Over the weekend, we participated in an art fair located at the Bradley Fair shopping mall in Wichita. Tomorrow I’ll have a large post about the fair, including pics of the vendor’s wares including woodworking, hand blown glass, jewelry, clothing, paintings, and much more. But today, I wanted to show you the duck pond near Bradley Fair. It’s a very large pond with a resident population of adorable ducks. Since we were there all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, I had a lot of spare time to watch the ducks, one of my favorite animals.

This one was giving himself a thorough cleaning and preening, and paused to take a look at the weird looking human.

This duck had a fancy hair-do. Maybe she went to the nearby beauty salon.

After I watched the flock for a while I was surprised to see one lone baby duckling.

Such a cutie. And he looked so soft too.

His feet looked much to large for him, but I suppose he’ll grow into them.

It’s a big world for such a little duckling.

A lot of rest is needed when one is very small and trying to grow up.

Ahhh….. that feels better.

“I may be little, but I have a lot to say.”

Bye bye little ducky.

On Sunday afternoon, a Snowy Egret visited the pond.

He’s not a resident, and was a little more skittish than the ducks.

He finally had enough of me, and flew to another part of the pond.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, snowy egrets were hunted and killed for their plumage which was then used to decorate hats. Their numbers were severely affected, but since then they have made a comeback and are not considered endangered today.

The pond was a refuge for me while at the fair, where I enjoyed the ducks, the shade, and the tranquil views.

Ohhh, I’m in love with the Weeping Willows! (huge fan of them here)

The ducks remind me of my Dad. He had a lake house. Come every morning, the ducks would come and he’d feed them some Ol’ Roy. LOL. 🙂

The unexpected byproduct of doing this is the catfish. When he discovered the catfish were eating some of the food, He taught them to come whenever he banged the edge of the dock near the water. Sure enough, they’d come within seconds and he’d feed them some food. LOL. 🙂

      Hi Lee Ann,
Fish are funny. I used to have an aquarium, and they would all get excited and come to the top when I would pick up the food container. Lovely story about your Dad, thank you for sharing!

Suzanne, all your photos are so admirable! Love each and everyone. The little duckling look so adorable. The fancy hair do looks like a crown as well 😉

  8. What a nice place for you to relax and take photos. I love that hairdo on the one duck! I’ve never seen that before! The baby duckling…oh my gosh! So sweet! I’m in love! This post makes me think about the geese that fly over my house twice a day, every morning and every evening. They reside at a pond 1 mile from my house. I believe you have inspired me to go take a few pics of them and make a post to share! Hope you are recooperating from your weekend!

Great photos Suzanne. I didn’t know that about the
egrets being on the endangered list. So sad that we
almost lost those beauties over some dang hats.
Geez! Love that baby duck and his big feet so cute.

      Hi Doe,
Isn’t it ridiculous what fashion can do to people? Killing all those birds just for decoration. So wasteful!

      Hi Lee Ann,
I love those trees too, but I think it may be too dry where I am for them to grow.
Silly ducks eating dog food. Thanks for stopping by.
