Autumn and Art at Bradley Fair

Last weekend, Wichita held its first autumn art show. Over 60 artists representing 13 art mediums participated, so there was something for everyone. Harland, (hubby), a farmer and photographer was invited to show his photography work. We had never done an art show, so we thought we’d give it a try. We arrived on Friday morning to set up the tent, and get all the prints displayed. The show started that evening, and went through Saturday and Sunday.

I helped out with the customers, but was able to get away to check out the rest of the vendors, and there was quite a variety of artwork to see.

There were painters,

handmade furniture,

pottery,

hand-crafted wood items,

jewelry, (these are glass blown hearts)

weaving,

clothing,

hand worked glass,

and photography. (Guess who?)

Musicians perfomed all weekend for the crowds of visitors.

And sometimes the visitors themselves were entertaining to watch. I did a double take when I saw this lady.

What’s that hanging from her jeans pocket? It’s her pet parrot, who was content to hang there during her entire visit.

For the kids,  there was a tent set up just for them where they could complete their own art projects and line up for the face painting too.

The nearby fountain was pretty to look at,

and a nice place to cool your feet.

We like craft fairs here in TN, too. Harland’s photographs are beautiful. Big one coming up in October: The Webb Craft Fair in Bell Buckle TN.

      Hi Glendus,
Too bad we are so far from Tenn, would love to attend the craft fair there.
I’ll pass along your thoughts to Harland. Thank you!

The fair looked like it was well done. The parrot on the girl’s pocket was pretty good. Harland has some wonderful photos, they really capture the beauty of Kansas, something many people are not even aware of.

      Hi Sally,
I have to say the fair was very well organized- they thought of everything, and it all ran like a well oiled machine for it being a first time out.
I’ll pass along your thoughts on Harland’s pics. Thank you!

  4. Looks like you had a great time. I visited your hubby’s photo site, now I want to move to Kansas!! Absolutely Breathtaking!!!

I liked the view of the fair from across the pond-so festive looking. I like art fairs too. So many beautiful things to see. Harland’s photography is stunning, lots of color and drama in his pictures. Hope you guys did well.

      Hi Vivian,
There was a lot of wonderful art there, and the setting was perfect for it, except for the heat. 🙂
I’ll pass along your thoughts about Harland’s pics. – Thank you!

Hi, Suzanne, looks like a great time!

The “parrot” on the lady’s jeans is a yellow-collared macaw (a mini macaw). I have one just like it, in fact Newton just woke up to start his day. They are delightful, although Newt can be quite noisy at times, little guys. Mine is quite a clown, and at 5, still a baby.

Harland’s photos look great! No wonder after the long weekend you felt “blah” the other day!

      Hi GinMT,
I could see from just watching a little bit that the macaw was quite a character. At one point he climbed up her purse and then onto her shoulder, but then worked his way back down to her pocket. How funny. Yours much entertain you I’m sure.
Thank you for letting me know what kind of bird he was.

Looks like a lot of talent was represented there!! Hope you got to eat some good city food while there!!

  11. It looks like a great art fair. Such beautiful works. I’m amazed at the parrot.

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Gardener,
Couldn’t believe the parrot. You’d think it would be easier to ride on her shoulder instead of hanging there like that.

  12. Sharon says:

Great photos, it looks like there was a wide range of vendors, something for everyone. The wood looks amazing as do Harland’s photos. Hope it was successful for you!

  13. i used to go to some amazing art fairs…this brings back such great memories! absolutely gorgeous photos 🙂

      Hi Heather,
      Welcome!
I’ve been to a few art fairs, but never one as nice as the Wichita one.
      Thank you for visiting!

  14. Peggy says:

Looks like a super art show. I haven’t seen furniture like that before. What a cute photographer! Ha ha. And the parrot lady, how strange. All that and music too. You had it all. Wish I was there.

  15. Rochelle says:

Wow, really impressed with your husband’s photos.

  16. Oh what a nice art show! The location is gorgeous with the water right there. Harland’s photos look beautiful! I am loving the hand blown glass hearts and the pottery. I am all about the pottery!…especially mugs! I just love art festivals like that. I really need to get to the Three Rivers Arts Festival in Pittsburgh, every June. Haven’t been since I was a kid.

    • Suzanne says:

      Hi Bonnie,
It was a great location for that show, and the vendors all had higher quality work too.
Thanks for your comment about Harland’s photography. I’ll pass it along to him.
