Tadpole Tuesday (3rd Episode)

If you’re just joining us and would like to catch up, here are all the posts so far about Miss Tadpole:

Episode 1

Episode 2

So when we left Miss Tad last week, she had sprouted her legs and feet and was grumbling about a lack of shoe stores that carry froggy sandals. Well, this week, she has sprouted arms and hands.

Early Saturday morning, she had large bumps along her sides and I mentioned to Harland that she should be getting arms any time now. Well, a couple hours later, she had sprouted her first arm, and I shouted to Harland,

“She has an arm now, she has an arm!!”

It’s a good thing we don’t have close neighbors by the way. The strange things they would overhear.

Anyway, once she had one arm, she kinda liked it, and in another hour she had sprouted her second arm. Apparently the arms grow just below the skin and when ready, they “pop” out, elbow first.

And check out those legs!  Amazing how much they’ve grown in one week. Looks like the stair-stepping machine has done wonders for her thighs.

Her mouth is getting wider and more frog-like too.

In the last couple days, she’s been coming to the surface to breathe air. We thought we had lost her on Sunday, when we didn’t see her anywhere in her tank. Frantic Careful searching revealed she had come up out of the water and was hanging upside down from the lid of her tank. Even though she can breathe air, she can also still breathe underwater with her gills. At some point soon, she will breathe exclusively with her lungs.

Her intestines have been shortening in preparation for her upcoming change in diet. Until now, she has been a vegetarian, but soon she will switch into a carnivore and begin to eat bugs.

Her tail hasn’t changed much, but soon she’ll no longer need it, and will absorb it altogether.

She’s growing up so fast, and lately she’s been filling out college applications.

Soon she’ll leave the nest. I don’t know how Harland and I will cope.

She is so cute! Do you think she favors you or Harland? I love her little sucker cups on the ends of her fingers. You are sending her out into the cold cruel world tomorrow???! Yikes!

    • Suzanne says:

Not sure what species she is, but with the little sucker cups at the ends of her fingers and toes I’m thinking she’s some kind of tree-frog.

  2. Glenda says:

    I’m lovin’ it!!
I think she looks like a hairless Kitty!

  3. Chester's Mom says:

Amazing! But how do you know she is a she? Did I miss that episode?

    • Suzanne says:

I have no clue if she is male or female, I just started calling her Miss Tadpole, and figure I have a 50% chance of being right. 🙂

Love your clever commentary on Miss Tadpole/Froggie’s quick childhood!

  5. Kara S. says:

What a beautiful/handsome froggie! My sister and I weren’t quite so lucky when we gathered a huge cluster of frog eggs from the creek and kept them in a 10-gallon bucket. I cannot wait to see how she’s changed next week!

  6. Sarah Lynn says:

Really enjoying seeing her change. 🙂

I have enjoyed this commentary! Thank you so much1

  8. oh man, I loved this! I just went and read episode 1 and 2. I love your photos…she is sooooo cute! Also, you had me cracking up about the part when you yelled “she has an arm now!” and thinking how funny it would be to have a neighbor overhear!! That is hilarious!

  9. Janet says:

The tale of Miss Tad is another one for childrens books, but I’m really wondering where is Kitty, surely she has had a comment or two.

    • Suzanne says:

      Janet,
Strangely enough, even though Miss Tadpole’s tank is right next to the window where Kitty sits, she doesn’t seem to have noticed Miss Tad at all. Or maybe she has and is just ignoring her. Jealousy? Hmmmmm……

  10. Doe of Mi. says:

I will miss her when you let her go!! This has been fun and interesting. What about that tail – will you let her go before she drops that tail? Or absorbs it? I never heard about the tail being absorbed, is that really what happens? See you tomorrow.
