Kitty In The Window

(Note: Kitty hasn’t had a post here on the blog since early May, and lately has been threatening to short-sheet our bed if she didn’t get one. So, here you go Kitty, another post to add to your page.)

Kitty is very much a creature of routine.  Every night, she sleeps in bed with us. At 6am she gets her morning feeding, and then requests we open the bathroom window so she can sit there and look outside for an hour.

She watches the barn cats and thinks evil thoughts about them as she is an avid barn cat hater.

She watches the birds and ticks off new birds on her birdwatching life-list.

She makes k-k-k-k-k-k-k sounds when they fly close to her window.

Her little tail curls back and forth.

And at the end of an hour, she’s ready to go back to bed. Most of the time, she hops onto the bathroom floor, walks into the bedroom, and hops onto the bed. But sometimes she decides to go from the windowsill to the the bed with a showstopping flourish: she does it in one giant leap for feline-kind, so to speak.

Much preparation goes into the jump. She sets herself up, measures the distance visually, weighs the pros and cons, wiggles her butt back and forth, and then jumps in a long graceful arc onto the bed.

Then she struts around proudly, tail in the air, before settling down for a cleaning session and some well-deserved snooze time.

Just another day in the hard life of Kitty.

I love your little happy notes everyday. You write very well and about things that we might miss even if we lived next door. Thanks for making it a happier Friday.

You’re so welcome Rita. And I get a kick out of doing this blog, and hearing from all of you too!

Wow, that is a great leap. She’s a good jumper. I love to watch my cat jump up on the bath sink. It’s so cute when they wiggle their butts. I’ve heard cats make the kkkkk sound but, have never heard mine do that. Wierd.

    • Suzanne says:

Since your cat is a cat, I would say just to be ornery that she probably makes the kkkkkkkkk sound when you aren’t around. 🙂

So glad to see that kitty is being catered to…I’m sure that makes her happy! Love those green eyes, and wow! What a jump!

    • Suzanne says:

She doesn’t do the jump often, probably because it’s the limit of how far she wants to jump. Luckily I had my camera.

  5. Tina says:

Wow! Great job on catching that on film. Mine would never do it if they thought you wanted them to. Kitty is very pretty. Thanks for sharing as always.

    • Suzanne says:

Kitty can be camera shy too. I’ve tried to get pics of her doing different things and when she sees me with a camera, she doesn’t do it. Onery thing she is. 🙂

By the way something is bothering me on the banner on your homepage. Is that a yellow spider I see on the right hand white flower petal or am I seeing things??? Just sayin’…

    • Suzanne says:

I was wondering if anyone noticed. :0 It’s a little crab spider. They like to hang out on flowers to capture visiting insects.

I’m loving yet another post on kitty! What great photos to catch of that leap! Such a tough life she leads! She is so pretty! I love your narratives too!
One of my cats makes the “kkkkkkk” sound for birds & bugs. The other cat never does. I think it is an individual cat thing.
By the way, I think your bed quilt and headboard are so pretty!

    • Suzanne says:

Isn’t that something? I thought all cats made that sound.
Kitty says thank you. She thinks she’s pretty too. 🙂

  8. Melanie says:

Oh my. .that is quite a leap. I wish I had Kitty’s life. .it sounds relaxing!

  9. Kate says:

Great jump shot, my pocket camera isnt fast enough to catch the action shots, I have lots of sleeping ones though! My kids love the birds too, I have afeeder near the windows just for them.

    • Suzanne says:

Us too. Just outside the window is a bird feeder so Kitty is entertained by all the visitors there.

Cats are creatures of habit — and she is a very pretty kitty!

  11. Teresa says:

I think it’s so funny to listen to the cats make those little noises, like they could talk the bird to coming closer and hopping into their mouths.

  12. Becky L. says:

Leapin’ kitty cat! What a leap onto that beautiful bedspread of yours. Kitty sure has a good life! Thanks for sharing~ Have a good weekend!

    • Suzanne says:

I’m sure Kitty doesn’t do the leap just to show off. I think I’m sure.
Ok, so she’s a show off, but she is a cat after all and can’t help herself. 🙂

  13. Peggy says:

Oh wow! I can’t believe you got that jump on camera. Did you have to sit and wait for very long? The up close photo of Kitty is fantastic!

    • Suzanne says:

Thanks Peggy. I was standing there with my camera after I had taken the pics of her in the window, and I saw she was in the preparations to jump which take forever, so I had plenty of time to get ready for her “performance.”

  14. Oh My Goodness!!!! That is awesome!!! I cannot believe you got that shot!!! You are good! That is wonderful. It is interesting to learn about Kitty’s daily routine. She just really seems like a character. I am wondering what that “k k k k k” thing sounds like. That’s pretty neat! Probably other people with cats would know that sound…I think…but the last time I had a cat I was a youngster!

  15. Linda says:

L-O-L!! Those are great shots. I know exactly what the “k-k-k-k” sound is – good description! It’s a particular pleasure to read your kitty posts because you describe their habits so well. 🙂

    • Suzanne says:

Kitty is so transparent in all her actions, it’s not hard to know what she is thinking, as it true for all cats. They are so unapologetic, but we love them anyway, go figure. 🙂
