Spray Plane

Me: Hey Harland, is that plane spraying a sunflower field for bugs?

Harland:  Nope.

Me:   Is he spraying the cornfield?

Harland:  Nope.

Me:  What then?

Harland:  Turnip seed.

Me:  What?!  Once more. I didn’t hear right.

Harland:  He’s dropping turnip seed on the cornfield. It will germinate by the time the corn is harvested this fall.  When the cattle are turned in to graze on the corn stalks, there will be turnip greens to graze on as well.

Me:  So the plane is dropping turnip seed?

Harland:  Yep.

Me:  Well I’ll be.

Harland:  Yep.

Cattle, corn, wheat, beans, mud, snow, ice, and drought. Plenty of fresh air and quiet. Our life is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes joyous, but never boring.

Really? What will they think of next! OK, ask Harland if the cattle only eat the greens then does he harvest the turnips? Sorry this Cityslicker has questions!

Sure beats bending over the row and sprinkling seeds (when it’s almost dark and can’t see much). Which is the way I planted turnips last night.

Do you ever wonder if Harlan just makes certain things up? Then again he’s a lot nicer then I am so probably not.
