Recently, while on a Sunday drive somewhere in southeast Nebraska, we came across this barn.
Harland thought it had been built as a feed storage barn for livestock. The feed was stored in the upper level. A wagon would be pulled through the large doorway, and the feed dropped from above into the waiting wagon.
It appears to be unused today and falling into disrepair.
Sad to see, but so it goes.

Postscript:
While we were taking pics of the barn, I heard the sound of a group of cattle running up to the fence behind us across the road in a dry dusty lot.
They watched us expectantly. ”Did you bring us some grain?” they seemed to be saying.

Harland is so smart. The barn at my sister’s has a grain bin on the side that is built into the barn.
You’re right…it’s sad to see such a unique building falling into disrepair! And…what a neat picture of those cattle!
Isn’t it sad to see such a beautiful barn left to the elements? I wish there was a ‘Barn Rescue’ organization! We have barns like this in WA State, too, left to fade away. Love the cattle pic. Love all your pics! xx
