Old barns somehow look their best in new fallen snow.

Below, a pile of old bricks stands near an old barn. Probably they were saved when the old home that once stood here was torn down.
Most old barns stood near houses, but many of the houses are now gone, leaving the barns alone on the prairie. Barns were once hubs of activity. Hay was stored here. Farm animals took shelter here. Barn cats prowled the hayloft.
The silence of old barns now is almost painful. One by one, they will eventually go the way of the houses that once stood near them.
But for now they provide a link to an earlier time on the prairie, and food for our imagination.
