Panda Calf At A Year Old

At about a year old, he’s actually no longer a calf, but a steer and ready to go to the cattle sale.

Over the weekend, I got a last look at Panda calf, and then a couple days later Harland hauled him and the rest of the calves born last spring to the sale.

Weighing in today at about 650 pounds, he’s grown a lot since his newborn weight in March of 70 pounds.

Click HERE to see how he’s changed over the last 12 months.

And here’s a short video where he’s having his evening grain.

 .

I’ll miss him.

But soon there will be newborn calves to keep us busy. Never a dull moment around here.

He looks like quite a healthy guy. I’m sure you’ll miss him, but I’m sure you’re right…the new crop of calves will keep you busy!

It must be hard to see him go. I am looking forward to seeing the new calves! Spring is almost here. xx

Yes, there is a time for everything but I hate to see the handsome guy go. He is so unusual with his markings I like it. I know you cannot get attached to them for such a silly reason but isn’t it hard not want to? But better a beef in the freezer than having to feed it….

  4. Always interesting to see what you’re up to on the farm, Suzanne. Life on the prairie has always fascinated me ever since I read the Little House books as a child. And…I never thought I’d say this, but, I want a cow!

  5. Aw, panda calf….:( Well, that’s what happens…and I know that’s why you can’t get attached and name them and all that stuff. He sure was a cutie!

I always hate when it’s time for them to go.
