Kitty and Her New Pet Fountain

Harland recently bought Kitty a pet fountain. It’s the white dish there in the background above.

While Kitty drinks her nightly treat of milk, I’ll explain.

She’s very picky about her water and when we are away on a trip, and no one is there to change her water every day, she doesn’t drink as much as she should. We think that’s why she had a bladder infection a while back. ย Her new pet fountain should ย prevent that from ever happening again. According to the directions in the box it,

“continuously circulates and filters your pet’s water. Fountain features a patented free-falling stream to draw more oxygen into the water and the sound of the free-falling stream lets pets know their water is fresh. A replaceable charcoal filter removes bad tastes and odors from the water.”

What a great idea! We’re were so excited and Harland put it together right away and the filter inserted, filled it with water and then put it on the floor in front of Kitty and –

Nothing. Zip. Nada.

Kitty looked at it and walked away. And she’s ignored it ever since. In fact, she’s afraid of it and steers a circle around it when she walks past.

Sigh.

So we’ve left her old dish of water there, and keep changing it every day. Hopefully, she’ll get used to her new pet fountain.

Someday.

Aren’t cats funny? Our cat, Chloe, will come running to and immediately drink fresh water when she hears me putting it in the bowl. On the rare occasion that we go away for a few days, I don’t know if she drinks, but I do know that she hides and doesn’t eat much. As a matter of fact, she actually lost weight over the Thanksgiving weekend! If only I could say the same!

I hope Kitty starts using the fountain. Keep us posted–I’ve thought about getting one of those, especially since we have 2 dogs and Chloe drinking from it. ๐Ÿ™‚

That Kitty…! I was counting on good news…to encourage me in my quest to get my cats to drink from their fountain. Molly and Lucy don’t care for theirs either…LOL..! We have had it up and running since October 1st….and the water has been refreshed. Good luck!

My brother has one of these for his cat, I’ll have to ask him if his cat took to it right away or what it took for his cat to start using it…

I just had to laugh (not at you of course). Cats are so weird. When we had our Kitty she would not go out the door for my husband (ever!). He used to call her ‘Cardiac Kitty’ lol

Your post made my day! Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

This is just a suggestion, but it does work w/my cat. I pretend to be real interested and play w/whatever it is I want him to be interested in or to do. Might take of few times seeing how stuborn they can be. Worth a try anyway and you may have to sit on the floor. I have my cat (Sam) loving to get his face washed w/a washcloth and he likes to sit on the bathrm. sink counter and drink water from my hands. Also likes for me to turn on the water and drink from the sink. But then to turn this around I have to invite him into the house or he’d sit there and look at me for ever. LOL

We bought one of these on the advice of our vet – our cat is scared to death of it (the pump is kind of noisy on the one we have) – so she still drinks from the toilet ๐Ÿ™

  7. Who can explain cats! Hope she tries it out soon.

I am glad I saw this post, I was going to buy my cat a fountain. Perhaps I should wait and see if Kitty changes her mind. My cat has had the same water dish all her life, maybe they only like familiar things?

I had to bribe my cat. I put a trail of treats & some catnip that went to the fountain. I had his favorite toy right next to it & played with him. He just had to get close enough to smell the water.
I kept his water dish up most of the day & in about a week he started drinking from it.
He really seems to like it now.

I think my Sundae would be afraid of this too. Let us know if she “warms” up to it.
And Sundae used to drink from the toilet when we first adopted her from the Humane Society: guess it was a treat since, obviously, she couldn’t do it there!
    Kitty is so pretty!

Update: Things are looking up. Last night Kitty touched her nose to the water. I have yet to see her drinking from it, but at least she’s not afraid of it anymore and knows there’s water in the dish. Yay!

    LOL!
I can imagine it taking a while for Kitty to cozy up to her fountain!
She has to live up to her image of being a (persnickety) cat!
    Hope it eventually works out!

My cats get fresh water everyday and one of them still prefers the toilet. I hope she gets used to it too. Do you think that if you take away her old bowl she will drink from it? Just a thought.

  14. Oh no!! Kitty is like “what?!” That’s too funny. That is a really great concept though. I hope she gets used to it soon.

Am I the only one wondering where you are? Hope you are just busy with all the “hustle and bustle” of the season. You are missed!

  17. Carol says:

I too wonder, “where oh where is Suzanne”? I check here everyday to see if there is a post. Have you gone away forever? If you need a break from us, maybe you could tell us? Hope you are OK, I agree with Laura, you are missed!

  18. Tina says:

Okay, now I am really worried. It has been weeks since we have heard from Suzanne, Harland and Miss Kitty. Does anyone live near enough to go check on them? I check by here everyday and after a week was hoping they were just away taking a trip. We need to form a posse.

She last posted on Nov. 29, so it’s just been a little over two weeks. Like all of us around the holidays, I’ll bet she’s just stepping back trying to get everything else done. However, I do miss her posts and look forward to her popping up again. ๐Ÿ™‚

If I’m not mistaken, this happened a month or two ago, and everything was fine. Suzanne had just been busy and taken a little break. Hoping that’s the case this time.

Harland, if you are out there, would you please tell us what has happened to Suzanne? We miss her, is she no longer posting, or is this something serious? I hope we hear from someone soon, please reply.

  26. Tina says:

Yes please I second that motion. Harland is there something wrong? We miss Suzanne and hope and pray all is well.
