This morning when the alarm went off at 6:30, we were greeted by the sound of thunder, lightning, and a downpour. What a lovely sound. It had stopped by the time I left for work an hour later, but since I got to work, we’ve been beset by one downpour after another. It’s just raining buckets. Couple inches or more so far and the forecast is for more today and tonight.
We had been worried coming into the spring that it was going to be another dry spring like last year. We were still inches behind in precipitation as a result of the ongoing drought that started last winter (2011-2012)
But then last week we had a few storms that dropped a couple inches on us, and our hopes rose.
It’s been so long since we’ve had a truly rainy spring day. Last spring was painfully dry and too warm. This year has been more normal so far.
I can’t tell you the joy one feels to see it rain for several hours on end. It’s been a long time, well, I guess since the spring of 2011, since we had a day like today. After the alarm went off this morning, Harland got up, drew the curtains aside from the window and looked out. And then he uttered words I haven’t heard in a long time:
“Hmmm….it’s raining like a cow peeing on a flat rock.”
Ahhh…sweet words to my ears.
