Cattle, corn, wheat, beans, mud, snow, ice, and drought. Plenty of fresh air and quiet. Our life is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes joyous, but never boring.

What is the red switch under his right thumb there? Now that the wheat contains too much mosture what do you do? By the way I loved the ride along! Thx from a City Girl!!!

    • Suzanne says:

You’re welcome Tina, and thanks for coming along!
The red switch is the header height control. Our land is terraced so he’s constantly adjusting the height of the header (the front part of the combine where the wheat stalks are drawn in and cut)

Does the combine have two seats in the cab? The video was great, I have ridden through a Kansas wheat field while sitting in CT. Is there anything made to dry the wheat? Something other than wind and lack of rain? Thanks Suzanne and Harland, I love your posts! : – )

    • Suzanne says:

      Thanks Carol!
Yes, a large seat for the driver and a small seat for a passenger.
Harland says, “the wheat can be dried in a grain bin after it’s harvested, but it’s not normally done that way because wheat usually dries in the field before harvest.”

I’m looking forward to the sequel! It’s like reading a mystery! The tension…!
    Very interesting.

  5. Great video! What kind of camera are you using? I’ve always wondered what it was like from the cab. Thank you. 🙂
