Surgery Update

Just wanted to bring you up to date on the latest:

I had my exploratory surgery on January 23. It was a little rough the first few days afterwards, but I’m doing much better now. They found what they suspected and so I’ll be having another surgery, a more invasive one, in March. Been having other tests done and bloodwork too. Hopefully at the end of it we’ll be able to start our family.

Thank you so much for all your good wishes and prayers. They mean a lot to us.

We’re gearing up for calving now which is supposed to start in early March. Last week Harland brought the heifers (first time moms) to the little pasture near our house so we can keep a close eye on them. Heifers are more likely to have trouble calving than older cows.

We have lots of snow in the forecast for this week:  4-8 inches tomorrow with 30mph winds so there will be lots of drifting. And more snow is on the way later in the week.

How about you? Snow in your forecast?

Cattle, corn, wheat, beans, mud, snow, ice, and drought. Plenty of fresh air and quiet. Our life is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes joyous, but never boring.

  1. Hey there. Good luck w becoming a mommy! I had some difficulty, but now my hubby & I are blessed with a beautiful little girl of our own. 🙂

Good luck to your young heifers, too.

So very happy to see your update. No kind of surgery is fun but hopefully all will be worth it. I said many prayers for you and I know so many others did too. So with all of us doing so I have faith you will be well and everything will turn out just fine. You will be able to start a family soon I just know it. Hope Harland’s cold is all better and you didn’t catch it. Good luck with the snow and cattle. It’s sunny here in the desert Southwest and in the 50’s.
Give Miss Kitty a rub from me and tell her it’s a shame there is a tuna shortage going on.
Glad to hear you are doing better and thank you so much for the update. Prayers and be well.

  3. Glad to hear the first surgery went well. Hope the second one is a roaring success, too. Hugs to you and Harlan and Miss Kitty in this cold weather.

  4. Alica says:

I’m glad to hear that you’re doing well after surgery. Praying that the second one will also go well, and that you will be blessed with a growing family soon! As for the snow…we just had 6″-8″ today of heavy wet snow. Unlike our last one, this one won’t be blowing anywhere. It’s been a long winter so far, and we’re eager for spring! Stay warm out there!

I’m so glad to hear from you! Happy to know that your first surgery went well, but sad that you need another more invasive one. We are definitely praying for you, dear friend! I’m hoping we’ll hear from you a few times between now and then…

Our winter here in western Oregon isn’t nearly as bad as some are having. But now it’s turning wetter and colder. Brr! We do need the moisture, so I’m not really complaining.

    God’s blessings!

Glad to hear from you. I’ve been thinking of you and praying for you. Glad the one surgery went well and hopefully the next one will as well. Keep mending and hope a baby is in your near future. It’s getting cold again this week, like it did in Dec for a whole week and didn’t do anything but freeze, nothing to see for it but for the last day when all the spider webs froze and looked like lace. Of course I have photos. Will share them soon. Not sure if we are getting snow or not. Will see. Stay warm and hope all is well on the home front! Hugs!

  7. Becca says:

So happy to hear your good news! God is good.
I am enjoying being part of your journey into motherhood.
You all take care and stay warm in all that snow!
    Florida hugs,
    Becca

So good to hear from you. It’s nice that you keep us updated on your journey to become parents. Hoping Harland’s cold is much better and you are able to get up and around. Quality time with Miss Kitty! You take care. You both are in my prayers.

Heavy wet snow yesterday here in Lexington, KY. Today very gray and cold. Sleet and freezing rain coming in our direction. 25* as we speak.

If you need a springtime boost, I was at the store yesterday and there was a whole row of seeds for planting. It puts a smile on my face and gives one hope knowing that spring is coming.

Glad you are doing well. Been missing you.

  10. June says:

Happy to hear your good news and sending prayers your way that the rest goes well! We’re hunkering down for the predicted 6″ to 12″ of snow, as I’m sure you are. Good luck with your spring calving. I’ll be looking for updates!

  11. Monica J. says:

Thanks for keeping us updated. We hope your next surgery goes well.

We are expecting another winter storm here in Michigan. My teenage boys have had so many snow days they are hoping to go to school tomorrow! They miss their friends not the homework…just to be clear.

    Greetings to Miss Kitty.

  12. Mickey K. says:

Glad to hear all is well. Good luck, and I will be lifting lots of prayers up for you and your family. 🙂

I’ve had way more sugary than I ever wanted to, and I have some tips on a successful experience. Hospitals are very bad places to be especially if you are sick. Get out as fast as you can! You are much better off at home with only your own germs to worry about. The TV remote is the “germiest” thing in your room. Bathrooms are sterilized every day , but no one ever cleans the remote. Phones are second, and bed rails are third. Sometimes door knobs are sterilized, and sometimes they are not. Have someone (family and/or friend} take some antibacterial hand washes (Clorox makes a kitchen counter wipe that is perfect) , and have them sterilize everything twice a day. Make sure everyone who touches you WASHES THEIR HANDS!!! You are the customer, and “the customer is always right”.

Best of luck to you. With all the people who are praying for you, I just know you will be fine. Please let us hear. We miss you!
Don’t forget Harlan and your Mother as I’m sure they are nervous too.

    • Barbara says:

I agree wholeheartedly!(but never thought about the remote.) The hospital where I work has instituted a new program called Gel in – Gel out. No matter what the reason for entry, if you go beyond the threshold of the room you are to use gel on your hands. Then you have the option of gel or soap and water wash on the way out. Absolutely do not be afraid to ask your caregiver, whoever they are, if they used gel.
As to the weather, I recently spent 2 weeks in St. Louis with family where the highs were in the teens or sometimes single digits. Made it up to 40 one or two days. I did not have one single hot flash there! But back to FL now and had to turn on the AC for a couple of days. Call me crazy but I miss the seasons; yes, even the cold and snow. Just don’t miss ice, either on the roads or my windshield.

  14. katie says:

Barbara, thanks so much for the support. Lots of people don’t believe me.

  15. Vicki says:

So happy to hear from you. We have been praying for happy results. Only the best wishes for you. Hurry back.

  16. Teresa says:

HOpe the surgeries will let you have your family. We’re cold. We’re snowy. I’m ready for spring.

  17. Stacy says:

Hi, Suzanne – I haven’t visited in a while, and wow – I landed on your surgery message. Sending you and Harland my prayers and good thoughts!

  18. Mandy says:

Hope you are feeling lots better! Prayers for you to have babies! =)

  19. Lorraine says:

    Suzanne,

Sending you bright and shiny thoughts and hoping you are on the mend and “enjoying” the winter. Have you been working on any crafts or projects. Stay warm and take care. Pet Miss Kitty for me.

God be with you and yours!

    • Suzanne says:

Thank you Lorraine. No projects right now. But I am planning on making cheese. Always wanted to do it and I ordered the ingredients and will be giving that a try soon. Will let you know how it turns out.
God be with you as well, thank you!

  20. Haven says:

I enjoy your blog so much, though I rarely leave a comment. Just wanted to say that I hope the surgery is a success because you and Harland would be such wonderful, loving parents. Sending prayers your way.

  21. Patrick says:

I was looking at photos of our baby (now 7 years old) today. I hope you and Harlan get to experience the same joy. But, I’m not at all sure that an adoption would not reveal the same emotions. I’m not a religious person, but I will pray for you and Harlan. 🙂
