Swans On Ice

Everyone knows how lovely and graceful swans can be.

Swans (1)

But have you ever seen them walking on a frozen lake?

Swans (2)

Nature didn’t design them for such a precarious activity, poor things.

Take a look:

(-music from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake)

A person could make a lot of money selling ice cleats to our web-footed friends.

Cattle, corn, wheat, beans, mud, snow, ice, and drought. Plenty of fresh air and quiet. Our life is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes joyous, but never boring.

So glad to have you back!!! Hope you just took a little break, and it wasn’t something serious. Happy New Year.

I kept wondering if one would go splaying down on that ice but they did very well! Certainly better than I would! Your music editing along with the video was perfect! Stay warm!

What a funny, touching video. I suppose they keep warm enough, and there is open water there, but how in the world do they find enough to eat? Are they usually there through the winter? I want to build them a little house, with nice straw beds and good things to eat. I am crazy. I’m sure they know how to be swans, and much better than I do!

It actually got down to 38 here last week. You would have though we were going to die.

I have no clue how they’re finding enough to eat silly birds. This video was taken a couple weeks ago, but the latest bird count at Squaw creek shows that they are still there, about 500 of them. It’s been brutally cold now for about a week. Below zero at night has been our norm. Nature is amazing isn’t it?

How fun! We heard on the national news tonight that you folks were really experiencing cold temperatures. I trust all your critters are well. We were below zero all of December and buried in snow. Now our temps are more normal for us, but we are still buried in snow! Are you having to wipe off the cattles’ faces a few times a day? Things were concerning here for awhile. Thankful for El Neno now! Stay warm and well.

    • Suzanne says:

Glad it’s not so cold for you now. We had a normal December, but Jan has been really cold, this week below zero nearly every night. We got snow over the weekend and more is expected today. On the up side though, our house is draft free and warm. Ahhhh….

Suzanne, your video is so precious! You set the lovely Swan Lake music to their movements perfectly – especially at the ending! Thank you so much. They almost seen to be skating, don’t they?

I’m sorry your weather is so cold now. We’re having 45F right now. And we’re supposed to get more rain during the night as well as tomorrow. It’s really nice to see our little waterfalls along the highway running full again after the very dry weather.

    Bravo! Brava!

    Dearest Suzanne,

After two weeks of absence, I think we are all becoming concerned about you and your family. At my age it usually means either disease, death, or divorce. It seldom means something good. You would have shared it with us if it were good. Please let us know if we should be praying for you or rooting for you. It just isn’t the same without you in our lives.
    Will be holding good thoughts.
    Sincerely,

    Katie

One post in two months. Did I miss something? Have you moved the site? Did you get bored? Fed up? Quit?? There aren’t even any comments. Am I the only one?

    Help!

    What’s going on?

    Katie

  9. I too am beginning to worry about you.

I’m sure Suzanne will let us know what is going on as soon as she can. I’ve heard they have had massive winter stuff in their area. I’m sure there are more of us concerned about them, hoping all is well.

  12. Linda Leinen says:

I’ve been growing increasingly uneasy the past couple of weeks. Not only do I miss your posts, I’m worried that illness, farming complications — whatever — have caused your hiatus. I hope all is well, and that you’ll be back with us soon. Your loyal fans — your friends — are praying for you.
