Chrysanthemums By The Door

Every spring small green shoots come up along the front of the house. Through the summer spread out their green leaves and grow flower buds. Every fall, the buds open into a profusion of quarter size yellow blooms.

Originally planted by one of the farm wives who came before me (Your mom, Jay?), they grow on either side of the front door and even squeeze themselves out between the house and sidewalk  just below the door so we step over them going in and out of the house.

They’re a hardy variety as they must have been planted at least 20 years ago, but continue to come up year after year providing a cheerful welcome to our home.

I just love them.

Thank you Mrs. Benson.
