Chatting With Horses
Sometimes when we are out driving on backroads and we come across animals(horses, cows, goats, pigs, etc) grazing near a fence, I just have to stop and talk to them. You know, they see vehicles drive past them all day. But does anyone stop and ask them how they are doing?
Seems kinda rude. So I make ask Harland to stop the truck and I ask them how the grazing is, how they and their friends are doing, are they happy with where they are in their lives, where did they get their hair done, you know – important stuff.
They thank us for stopping, invite us back for tea at a later date, and we go on about our journey. So next time you are out and about, make time for the grazers.
Their lives are kinda dull, and they’ll appreciate your thoughtfulness.

I have a friend who does the same thing! Stops and talks to the horses, cows, dogs, birds you name it we’ve stopped to chat!
I love it! I do the same thing!
I think you’re finding kindred spirits! I thought I was a bit odd that I do this. We live in a pretty urban area but there is a farm with a few horses about 5 minutes from us. Whenever we are going that way my toddler asks, “Are we going to see the horses?” I stop, open the window, make clucking noises to see who comes, and just enjoy their company for a bit and then off we go. Love that you posted this.
Cute, cute post!
I’ve never done that, but I do “MOO” at cows sometimes when we drive by. Guess that isn’t quite the same as a chat, though….
Don’t worry Harland, she used to do the same thing to me when we drove out through Amish country here in MO.
Now my grand daughter rolls down the window and does the same thing.
Of course when I was a kid I would walk down the road to visit with the neighbor’s horses at the fence. I was horse crazy at the time.
Lovely animals by the way.
I’m the one that calls the Blue Jays and they come for peanuts. I also talk to all the critters around the yard that stop to visit me but, I don’t remember actually stopping to chat with horses or cows. That does sound like fun and I can’t believe I’ve never stopped cause I love horses, they are so beautiful.
Are you a horse whisperer?
Very cute post and beautiful horses. I too talk to animals. I think they enjoy the human interaction.
You are too funny! I talk with my cats and they seem to enjoy it. I guess if I was around farm animals I would give it a go.
Funny girl. Love your idea to stop and say hello. When I first started following you it was horses that caught my attention.
What beautiful horses!! I think it is awesome to stop and talk to animals! I’m sure you probably figured that I talk to my chickens a lot. When I pick them up to put them in their coop at night and they give me a hard time, sometimes I have to tell them “you better not even think about scratching me or I’m going to make you into soup!” Is that mean???! LOL It’s ok, I say it nicely and they have no clue!
I do the same thing Bonnie to Kitty when she is bad, but I don’t mean it either. 🙂
I confess, I chat with my animals all the time! Like you say, it’s rude not to.
