At The Pasture

Recently we went to the summer pasture to check on the cows.

Look how much nicer the grass looks this year:

Here’s a pic taken from the same spot about a year ago during the worst of the drought:

Rain is a wonderful thing.

Buried up to their tummies in green grass, the cows are fat and sleek.

Here’s one of the bulls. Turned out with the cows about a week ago, he’s in seventh heaven.

The calves are now eating grass and putting on weight:

They’re still nursing and will continue until fall, but eating grass is really what will fill them out and make them grow.

We’ll check on the cattle once a week through the summer, but they have all they need and are quite happy to be away from us, the pesky humans.

Cattle, corn, wheat, beans, mud, snow, ice, and drought. Plenty of fresh air and quiet. Our life is sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes joyous, but never boring.

What a difference in the pasture, from one year to the next. They’re looking great!

The pictures are wonderful. Glad you got the much needed rain.

We got rain here in Lexington and it was needed. Morning started out at about 70*, sunshine and beautiful.

Thank you for sharing your farm!

Prayers are answered Suzanne, just not as soon as we would like! The cattle look happy and full of lovely greens.

There is a small farm around the corner from our home here in Lexington. On this farm, as we drive by, there are many calves with a pond within their reach. Saturday driving by going to Mass all the young ones were in the pond. My husband and I make up dialog for them as we see them. Sad to say no life guard on duty but the mom’s had drinks with umbrellas.

Excuse the silliness from a city girl living in the country…. Or really close to it….

Oh no, not silly. We have dialog for our cows too, and everyone else’s cows. We can’t help it. 🙂
